World's largest self portrait ....using GPS

The technique is described this way: "My pen was a briefcase containing the GPS device, being sent around the world. The paths the briefcase took around the globe became the strokes of the drawing."

He writes that the briefcase began a 55-day circumnavigation on March 17, ending up earlier this month back where it started in Stockholm, Sweden.(Courtesy DHL) He then downloaded the GPS information--the trip covered 62 countries on six continents--to his computer and made the self-portrait in a single stroke. Top 10 Google flops

Google is probably the biggest brand in the world and the most successful e-company today. But Google didn't get there without a few failures and a few risks--some of which have bombed considerably.

For example, remember the Google Accelerator, which was supposed to speed up Web surfing? And Google Answer. Google Video did so quite well and they went ahead and acquired Youtube to fill the void they could not do them selves. If you can't win 'em, buy 'em. Read on here

From www.notalwaysright.com

This is a nice blog dedicated to people who have had humorous interactions with their customers. Here is a sample post below..

He Wants the Google

Call Center | Unknown Location

Me: “How may I help you?”

Customer: “I’d like to buy a Google. How much is it?”

Me: “Well, Sir, you would have to buy an internet connection, like our DSL to–”

*cuts me off*

Customer: “I don’t want to buy your f****** DSL! I want Google. My friend told me it’s the best, so I want that!”

Me: *trying not to laugh* “Sir, Google is a search engine, you really need to buy a connection package first to–”

*cuts me off again*

Customer: “I want Google! Are you listening to me? GOOGLE! HOW MUCH IS IT?”

Me: *innocently* “Oh, my guess would be a few billions, sir.”

Customer: “What? That’s ridiculous!”

Me: “I agree. However, if you buy our DSL package for $**.**, you can use Google all you want and it’ll be FREE!”

Customer: “Really? Then why would anyone ever be stupid enough to want to buy Google?”

Me: “Beats me, sir.”

MS intros Telescope

You can now fly through the universe, viewing stars, planets and celestial bodies as an astronomer would, virtually, with the Worldwide Telescope by Microsoft.

The virtual service combines images and databases from every major telescope and astronomical organization in the world.

Microsoft says it is providing the resource for free in memory of Jim Gray, the Microsoft researcher who disappeared last year while on a trip to scatter his mother's ashes. The project is an extension of Gray's work. While writing this post, my copy of Telescope is downloading, so can't say for now how it compares to Google Sky or Celestia. Check it out here

Ok I did check it out. You can switch views to Earth, Sky, Planets, and Panorama. Looks and feels like Google Earth/sky though. Follow-up post later..

The device features a 2 megapixel camera with integrated flash. 5x digitial zoom is also supported. They are not ready to give in to Nokia, HTC so soon.. Check it out here
